Announces Barnyard Birth
New dairy cow calf can be seen in the Prospect Park Zoo’s barn area
Brooklyn, NY – Dec. 24, 2012 – A newborn calf at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo lies in the hay in the barn area as Tetley, his mother, watches closely.
The male calf tipped the scales at 84 pounds at birth and is the first to be born at Prospect Park Zoo.
Tetley is a Shornhorn milking cow and her calf was sired by a Randall Lineback bull. The calf and his mother can be seen in zoo’s barn area along with geese, goats, sheep, and a turkey. The calf is growing quickly and could surpass 1,000 pounds when he reaches maturity.
The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo – $8.00 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, free for children under 3. Zoo hours are 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. weekdays, and to 5:30 P.M. on weekends and holidays, April through October. 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. November through March.
