zack-book-page-imageImagination helps children solve problems, adapt to new life situations, and learn how to think creatively.  Some of the best childhood memories revolve around a fort, a cardboard box time machine, distant lands and galaxies, and the places explored while reading.  Today, many children’s memories revolve around the television and the computer.  Don Winn, the award-winning author of The Knighting of Sir Kaye, hopes to change all that with his new, imagination-filled book, Space Cop Zack: Protector or the Galaxy, a story that teaches children that they can create their own adventure while reading and playing.

Space Cop Zack, a little boy with a big imagination, and his faithful robot sidekick, GARG, chase the terrible Dr. Dogbreath across the galaxy.  Together, they brave bad smells, squishy slime, giant ocean monsters, and motion sickness.  Do Zack and GARG finally capture Dr. Dogbreath, or will he escape their grasp?  The end is all up to children’s imaginations.

Parents often want to encourage their children’s sense of imagination and discovery, and, with this new children’s book, parents can help their children do just that.  Winn’s goal while writing Space Cop Zack was to encourage children to create their own adventures.

Winn knows how important such imaginative odysseys can be—as a child, his imagination transformed a big cardboard box into a rocket ship, submarine, or whatever else he imagined.  These days, children seem to rely more on video games than imagination, and, as a result, children are missing out on the experiences that imaginative play has to offer.   Space Cop Zack teaches children that their imagination can take them anywhere.

Don Winn is the award-winning author of the children’s novel The Knighting of Sir Kaye.  He has written ten additional picture books, including The Higgledy-Piggledy Pigeon, Superhero, Twitch the Squirrel and the Forbidden Bridge, and Shelby the Cat.

Don has been writing for over 15 years.  After he started writing poetry, Winn moved on to writing children’s picture books. Soon, he started to write chapter books for children.  Winn lives in Round Rock, Texas.
