Angie’s List to Receive Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation Corporate Leadership Award

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., August 28, 2013 – Angie’s List has been recognized as a national leader for its high quality, on-site daycare and parenting program.

The Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation (TLLCCF) will honor Angie’s List, the consumer review site, with its prestigious Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation Corporate Leadership Award at the Foundation’s 26th Annual Rose Gala on November 2 in Philadelphia.

The TLLCCF Corporate Leadership Award is presented annually to a company that exemplifies the finest among its peers in its commitment to child care as it relates to its employees and the community at large.

“We believe the Angie’s List programs have been successful because the company actively listens to what their employees say they need to succeed in the workplace. Their programs evolved as the small, young company grew and their staff’s family needs grew, too,” said Allan Miller, TLLCCF executive director. “They didn’t just add services their employees wanted; they added high-quality services and have a personal hand in tailoring them. This speaks highly of their commitment to both their employees and their employees’ families.”

Like most companies, Angie’s List had long offered pre-natal counseling as part of its health care benefits, but saw that few of its new parents took advantage of the out-sourced service. The program was brought in-house and now offers pre-and post-natal classes that are open to both parents.

“We quickly learned from our new parents that they wanted support after the baby came because that opened up a whole new bundle of responsibilities,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks, who takes part in the classes and gives each new family a book her young children picked out as one of their favorites.

AL Campus Kids operates in two renovated houses on the Indianapolis Angie’s List campus. The company voluntarily sought and is earning national accreditation through Indiana’s Quality Rating and Improvement System.

“We’re very pleased with our family focused programs at Angie’s List, like our onsite-daycare and parenting programs” Hicks said. “They’re fabulous benefits that help with retention, recruitment, overall productivity and morale.”

As an example of the company’s commitment, Miller pointed to the story of a new mother whose child was born with complications that led to a need for his caregivers to know CPR and the need to administer it shortly after he was born. That experience led the company to offer a well-attended, infant CPR class.

Miller said he and his board were impressed with Angie’s List’s efforts to seek outside accreditation and to grow its child care benefits to meet specific demands. “Our Corporate Leadership Award winners know that without high-quality child care our country cannot remain competitive in the global market,” he said. “Companies like Angie’s List are great examples for everyone to follow.”

Hicks encouraged all companies to examine their workforce needs. Research has shown that children who attend high-quality child care centers are prepared to succeed in school and in life, which saves society money on special education services and other future costs.  Parents who have access to high-quality child care are more likely to retain employment and be more productive at work.
