The American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) announces today the launch of “Pinking of You,” an innovative new digital campaign to show emotional support for those affected by breast cancer. Individuals are encouraged to get friends and loved ones together to create meaningful video messages to let those affected know they are “Pinking” of them in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Similar to the viral Ice Bucket Challenge, which raised $115 million for the ALS foundation, “Pinking of You” will focus on sharing these messages through social media to raise awareness. A new mobile app is donating their platform to be used in the campaign. VideoFizz makes it easy for individuals to record their emotional support videos, donate and share with recipients. The app automatically stitches multiple recorded messages together allowing friends and families to create montage videos full of support.
“Seeing friends and family through video messages is incredibly powerful,” says Laura Steward, CEO of Video Fizz. “We hear over and over again from recipients that these messages are tangible reminders of care and support. We hope this campaign will allow friends to show support for survivors, their families and uplift cancer patients as they watch and replay these encouraging video messages.”
Absolutely 100% of all proceeds will go directly to the ABCF’s lifesaving programs, which provide financial assistance for breast cancer screenings and diagnostic tests to the uninsured and underserved regardless of age or gender.
“1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer,” says Katherine Mele, Development Director at ABCF. “With the power of social media and online video content, this campaign will allow us to extend the reach of the rescue and touch the hearts of so many people across the nation.”
The campaign is generously sponsored by leading tart cherry juice company, Cheribundi.
Organizations and individuals can visit the app store or the Google play store to download VideoFizz and begin making free breast cancer support videos September 26.
About American Breast Cancer Foundation
The American Breast Cancer Foundation’s (ABCF) mission is to provide financial assistance for breast cancer screenings and diagnostic tests for uninsured and underserved individuals, regardless of age or gender. This is achieved, in part, by the Breast Cancer Assistance Program (BCAP), the Community Partnership Program, and the newly-designed Community Advocacy Program. It is the goal of each of these programs to reduce disparities in access to diagnosis and the treatment of breast cancer, particularly among the poor, the underserved, and the uninsured. These interventions may lead to modification of negative factors and improve the survival rate of clients served.
