Being a parent is one of the most challenging tasks that any person who has the opportunity to experience in life. It changes a person in ways that they could never imagine.  As a dad myself, I could tell plenty of stories about parenting and how it has changed me.  My story is just one of many who experience parenthood. As  my career has taken me to become a sportswriter, it has allowed me to speak with many of professional athletes about a wide range of topics and some conversations have been about parenting.

Over the next few weeks and months, I will share stories about parenting from a professional athletes perspective. Through informative stories and small video clips, you will get to see these athletes become who they are today. Just plain Mom or Dad.

For those who don’t know who Sydney Leroux-Dwyer is. She is one half of the United States World Cup winning forward duo with Alex Morgan. Her marriage to US Mens Team and MLS Kansas City striker Dom Dwyer has them considered as Soccer’s Royal Family.

Through out the years, Leroux-Dwyer has been one of the most popular players in the women’s soccer game and an inspiration to many young girls all across the United States and Canada (Sydney was born in Surrey, British Columbia). But on right after she was traded to her current NWSL team FC Kansas City, she announced that her and Dom were expecting their 1st child in September of 2016. On September 10, 2016, the Dwyer became parents to their son Cassius.

Ever since the first pictures where shown of Cassius, the world got a chance to see how special he was to Sydney and Dom. In the video below, I had a chance to talk to Sydney about being a Mom, how it’s changed her and what does it mean to be an inspiration to little girls.

She’s not only super striker on the field, she’s also one half of a super Soccer Parenting duo as Cassius is with her every step of the way. In the brief time spent with her in Orlando, when you mention her son’s name her face lights up.
