There are so many philosophies to follow with exercising – here are two important thoughts.
1. Never skip more than 2 days of exercise in a row.
2. Remember that something is ALWAYS better than nothing!
Any type of activity you do is beneficial, and it all adds up. So, set a plan, but if things change – always have a back-up plan. So, if you’re not able to do a 3 mile walk…is there a 1 mile loop you can take? Do you have stairs at your home? In a pinch, you could even walk up and down the stairs for 10-15 minutes. It’s not fun…not that exercise is necessarily ever “fun,” but it is activity.
Once you figure out when is a convenient time, think about a commitment you want to make with yourself. 3 walks/week minimum…4? Look at what you think you can accomplish and not necessarily what your ultimate goal is. The ultimate goal is to eventually be doing some type of physical activity most days of the week. So, we know 6-7 days/week is the ultimate goal, but what is a short-goal you hope to accomplish…4x/week?
Secondly, let’s take a look at step counts. The minimum step count is 10k steps/day. Now, this is difficult, but it is something that is doable…in most cases. So, I don’t think you’ll have an issue getting to that point. What about 8k steps/day as a goal?
