Zynga, who makes Words With Friends, FarmVille and other addictive online games, released a statement saying they had been hacked and user data was taken. Keep reading for everything you need to know.
According to the statement, the breach affected both ‘Words With Friends’ and ‘Draw Something’. Luckily, it doesn’t seem like any financial information was stolen. However, 218 million account passwords were stolen during the breach – across both Android and iOS players.
In addition, it also looks like the hacker got their hands on:
- Names
- Email Addresses
- Phone numbers (if provided)
- Facebook ID (if connected)
- Zynga account ID
As soon as Zynga became aware of the breach they launched an investigation and contacted law enforcement. Zynga said they will contact users who’s accounts were affected.
What should you do now?
Change your passwords. Right now. Remember to make it tough – that means letters, numbers, and special characters. And do your best not to reuse passwords across platforms. If you did have the same password across other logins, you should change those too.
