One in five people surveyed in the U.K. by Magna Global and Spotify said they were listening to more podcasts during the coronavirus pandemic and 45% said they are spending more time listening to streaming music. The results – which mirror similar U.S. surveys – also shed light on what is behind the gains.
“People are turning to digital audio as a tool to combat screen fatigue,” the study says. The data shows 29% cited screen fatigue as the primary reason they are listening to more digital audio. Another 46% said it was part of the decision-making. One in four attributed other reasons for their bumped-up streaming audio consumption.
