Virgin Galactic made good on a decade-old promise today. Virgin founder Richard Branson and a team of five soared to the edge of space during the company’s latest test flight.
The company’s first fully-crewed spaceflight was moved up several months to undercut Jeff Bezos’ plans to hop aboard a Blue Origin rocket in late July.
However, more substantially, today’s flight means that Virgin is even closer to taking paying customers. According to their latest figure, Virgin has 600 firm reservations for spaceflights. However, that figure was last updated in 2020, so it’s fair to assume there are many more now.
Those 600 reservations come at $250,000 a pop. That means that Virgin should be looking forward to collecting a $150M bag over the next few years.
