The NFL will be represented on the field at the upcoming HBCU Legacy Bowl game this Saturday (February 19) with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes serving as an honorary captain.
Mahomes will participate in pre-game festivities, toss the coin for the all-star game organized by the Black College Hall of Fame. This is the first year of the HBCU Legacy Bowl that seeks to provide an opportunity for HBCU athletes and coaches to get NFL exposure.
The 2019 Super Bowl champion won’t be the only one from the Chiefs organization in attendance. According to the HBCU Legacy Bowl’s official Twitter account, the Chiefs will join the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New York Giants to have a scouting presence in the stands at Tulane University’s Yulman Stadium.
News of Mahomes’ attendance was first announced on Monday (February 14) at a press conference, and he was later tapped to serve as a honorary captain. Mahomes’ foundation, 15 and The Mahomies made a multi-year commitment to the Bowl last March.
The Saints’ Jameis Winston and Terron Armstead and 2022 NFL Super Bowl Champion Aaron Donald have also voiced their support for the Bowl.
