First of all let me say that before I purchase anything, I read a lot of reviews. We did not come to a decision to purchase a Joovy Caboose Ultralight easily. However, after owning one for about a month I would definitely recommend this stroller. My family is larger, I am 6’8” and my wife is 5’10” and our son just turned 3 and is 41” tall. We have a 4 month daughter and were in need of a tandem or sit ‘n’ stand-type stroller. I wanted to make sure that my son would have enough room and not be cramped. We also needed something that my wife could handle easily on her own. There are several great reviews of the Joovy Caboose Ultralight on Amazon and other websites and the negatives are few. Many of the reviews I read stated that they had taller kids and that the size of the Caboose was not a problem. So we made our purchase.
Putting the stroller together. A few of the reviews I read stated that this was slightly cumbersome and instructions were not entirely clear. That was certainly not the case for me. I had the box on my living room floor and the stroller was together about 20 minutes later. The instructions were very straightforward and easy to make sense of. The rear axle has to be assembled. Basically, you just line up washers, wheels, spacers and more washers exactly like the instructions say. The front wheels snap-lock on and you’re in business. Couldn’t be simpler.
Handling and operation. The first thing we did was take the kids and the stroller to the mall in Fort Worth. My 3 year old was excited when we told him how he was going to stand in the new stroller while “baby sister” rode in front. She is still in her carrier car seat. You position the car seat on the front of the stroller and it buckles into place. There is an attachment railing for the car seat provided in lieu of a food and drink tray that you can switch out later. Very sturdy and secure. My son hopped on the back and put his hands on the standing position hand rails. We were off! Stroller was very maneuverable. The big wheels take parking lot bumps just fine…wouldn’t take this one off roading, strictly a street model. My son can also sit rear facing with a padded seat that slides backwards/forwards. Again, he had plenty of room. Getting back to my truck I took the kids out and my wife folded it up and placed it in the front seat of my truck. It is compact enough to do this but certainly would be very easy to put in a trunk of a car or slide in the back of an SUV.
Final Verdict. We love it! Can’t say enough good things about the Joovy Caboose Ultralight. It is very well made and put together, not a lot of plastic stuff on this one. Oddly enough, the only negative that I would say is the plastic foot rest for the front rider. It kind of flaps loosely when you fold the stroller up, so be careful not to rest the stroller directly on this or it might break. But all things considered, this is a minor negative. This stroller locks in the folding position and also locks in the strolling position. It is a great stroller for taller kids but seems adjustable to fit just about any need. The Joovy Caboose Ultralight rocks! A+
