Sony is planning to let robots take over the manufacturing of its cameras, TVs, and smartphones.

The company is aiming to move to fully automated production lines at its main TV factory in Malaysia to cut costs by 70 per cent by the fiscal year 2023, compared with 2018.

Sony also intends to increase automation on its camera and smartphone production, although will retain some human workers.

Kimio Maki, head of Sony’s electronics businesses, told the Financial Times sales data will be analysed using artificial intelligence to more effectively set manufacturing volume.
