Livio Radio Bluetooth Internet Radio Car Kit – REVIEW

The other day my 4 year old son inserted a handful of quarters into my CD player.  Was this the first time this has happened?  NO – Did I get upset – not necessarily!?!  Was I planning to take my car back to Mario’s (local mechanic) to remove the loose change?  NOT.  I wasn’t interested as I knew that I received a complimentary “LIVIO Radio Bluetooth Internet Radio Car Kit”.

Livio Radio combines its hardware and an app (software) to open a normal car or satellite radio to the world of internet radio.  After the simple setup of the Livio Kit – you’ll add the free Livio app for Apple and Android devices, and you get organized access to hundreds of Internet radio stations. If paired (Bluetooth) with an iPhone, you get access to over 45,000 AM, FM and Internet radio stations. You can look by genre, location, or keywords. You can save stations as preset favorites for easy access. The app gives you song artist and title information and allows you to “tag” a song, saving the information or emailing it to you for future purchase. If you pay for the upgraded app, then it also releases additional features.

The current Kit is primarily built for iPhone, so those custom controls for getting similar stations, tagging songs and launching the app can be run directly from the Kit. The app is also available for Android, but those custom buttons won’t work. Even with Android you can still stream through your car stereo, make handsfree calls, push play, skip or stop.

The good: The Livio Radio Bluetooth Internet Radio Car Kit is extremely flexible, with an easily positioned neck and multiple connection methods so it can act as a bridge between a smartphone and a car’s stereo. The Kit also works with the Livio app on a paired smartphone, giving access to 45,000 AM, FM, and Internet radio stations.

The bad: Although the Kit can handle hands-free calling, its performance worked for the iPhone, but slightly unimpressive for the Android products.

The bottom line: The Livio Radio Bluetooth Internet Radio Car Kit isn’t the best hands-free calling option, but it’s a great and easy way to bring Internet radio and smartphone audio playback to almost any car.

Yes, I’m getting my CD’s out of my car – and you can too – for $99, a plug and a swipe.  Doesn’t your dashboard deserve an upgrade today?
