ScoreBig Inc., a startup company headquartered in Los Angeles, CA and focuses on the liquidation and sale of “undersold” ticket inventory for sports, concerts, theater, and other live entertainment events. The privately held company was founded in 2009 by Adam Kanner and Joel Milne, former Harvard University, MBA students.
With 35-50% of live entertainment tickets going unsold, ScoreBig gives venues the ability to cut ticket prices without “the whiff of desperation that typically accompanies discounts. The service, currently in private beta, seeks to provide members with savings of 10-70% off retail prices by providing a value market for the ticketing industry.
Similar to Priceline.com‘s Name Your Own Price system, ScoreBig’s service allows its users to bid on sporting, concert, theatre and other live entertainment tickets with expectations of saving 10-70%. Launching to members-only on December 15, 2010, ScoreBig had more than 600,000 tickets available to purchase.
When browsing or searching the website, members can see how much of a discount they’re expected to receive. After selecting desired seating based on a star rating scale, members bids are either accepted or rejected right away. If accepted, the tickets are purchased immediately, without service fees or delivery charges. If the bid is rejected, the member is barred from bidding again on that event for 24 hours, but also is shown alternative “buy it now” offers. Despite invitation-only, members can refer-a-friend and are credited $10 if their friend makes a purchase.
